Firebrand Farm

July 2, 2015
Firebrand Farm is a full-service hunter/jumper facility, specializing in classical horse training, lessons, showing, and sales. We are located on the beautiful property of Day Creek Ranch in Simi Valley, convenient to all the Conejo Valley and its environs.

Liz McKenzie, head instructor and trainer at Firebrand Farm, is a well-rounded professional horsewoman who has been in the business for more than 20 years. She instructs all levels of riders from beginner to advanced; trains young horses, green horses, and clients’ horses; transports horses to various events where she coaches her students; and manages enriching activities for children, such as riding camps and Saddleclub. Through her passion for horses, coupled with her patience and understanding of horse and rider, Liz has the talent and experience to help each student achieve their goals.

Firebrand Farm offers riding lessons for children to adults, at all levels and for all interests.  Group and private lessons are available.  Special classes are also offered for parents and children to enjoy riding together, or for students to build essential groundwork skills.  We also provide tailored show training to prepare riders for hunter/jumper shows that suit their interests and goals. We attend shows from the local Tri-Valley level to the "AA" Thermal Desert Circuit.

The Saddleclub is an exciting forum for youth to work together and have fun learning all things about horses! The focus of the Saddleclub is the development of self-awareness and leadership, while learning solid horsemanship skills. With help and support from teen & adult volunteers, Liz instructs youth in a safe & nurturing environment and provides hand-on experience with horses in this groundwork class. Riding lessons are provided separately so that the focus of the Club can remain on essential horsemanship (grooming, tack, barn & arena conduct) and leadership skills (teamwork, accountability, respect for self & others). Special activities include guest visits from equine vets, ferriers, etc, horse-related arts & crafts, service projects, and field trips. Recently, the Saddleclub members hosted a one-of-a-kind "equine wedding" for 2 of our horses, Special and Louie!

Firebrand Farm also offers horseback riding camp for children, ages 6 through 14, to enjoy learning about horses in a one-week day camp with plenty of hands on time with safe & well-trained horses & ponies. Our sessions are limited to just 10 campers, ensuring that each child receives plenty of 1:1 attention from our instructors & camp counselors. Each session will offer a different focus or theme, so children will continue to be inspired & challenged. For kids who love horses, nothing can create memories of a lifetime like attending a quality horse camp, where they can learn/improve riding skills & knowledge of horses & have fun at the same time. Summers spent at a riding camp can create friendships & experiences that they will cherish forever.

"Pony Parties" are also a fun way to create lasting memories with friends and family!  These birthday parties are customized for the special guest of honor - with lots of "horsing around" guaranteed!

"In riding, success can be seen in so many areas and at so many levels.  And whether it is measured with ribbons and applause, shared smiles and laughter, or internal self-confidence and humility - I feel that I can help each rider from that genuine partnership with their horse that will bring each individual true success." - Liz McKenzie
