Living Green Expo

September 25, 2014
On Saturday, September 27, the fifth annual Simi Valley Living Green Expo will be held at the Simi Valley Town Center. The City of Simi Valley is proud to provide this free family event to showcase the City’s green-sustainability-themed programs and exhibitors. The Living Green Expo is designed specifically for families, with kid-friendly, free activities, crafts, and displays to explore throughout the Town Center.
Kids of all ages will enjoy free face painting, free arts and crafts, educational exhibits, and an exciting Touch-a-Truck display. The Simi Valley Police Department will also be on hand to present its popular Bicycle Safety Rodeo offering free bicycle safety checks and an obstacle course designed to teach young riders to ride as safely as possible. Representatives from the Police Department will also be on hand to complete child fingerprinting.

Kids and their parents will enjoy browsing the farmer’s market featuring fresh and local fruits and vegetables, attending free gardening workshops from the Ventura County Master Gardeners, and watching local live performers on two entertainment stages.
This year’s Expo includes an on-site water-saving plant show and sale, offering selections and advice on water-saving gardens and yards. Master gardeners will be on hand at the plant sale to answer gardening questions, and the City’s water conservation team will be there to answer irrigation questions and share the latest rebate information.

Adults can also participate in an on-site blood donation drive (make your appointment on-line at www.unitedbloodservices.org) or take advantage of on-site paper shredding (the first five boxes are free!), as well as browse dozens of green-themed vendors, from solar power providers to environmentally-friendly retailers.
And, finish all that fall cleaning with the environment in mind by taking advantage of collection events at the Simi Valley Living Green Expo. A food drive and collections for used eyeglasses, clothes, cell phones, shoes, and books will all be located on-site, and electronic waste will be collected from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Simi Valley Unified School District Offices (875 E. Cochran Street).
As part of the book drive, which benefits the Simi Valley Friends of the Library, Lazertag Extreme has pledged to offer free passes to every single student enrolled in the elementary school that brings in the most books.
The Simi Valley Living Green Expo will take place on Saturday, September 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Simi Valley Town Center (1555 Simi Town Center Way). More information, including gardening workshop schedules, entertainment lineups, and participating vendors, is available at www.simivalley.org/LivingGreenExpo.
