Macaroni Kid Crafts for Earth Day- Recycled Cereal Box Book Marks

Craft Your Own Book Marks From Items Around the House

By Aimee Falso April 19, 2020

April 22nd marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day is recognized as the official holiday of the environmental movement. It’s an opportunity for us to think about our impact on the Earth and to make lifestyle choices that will help us “go green” (i.e. take specific actions that will have a positive impact on the environment).

Celebrate this year by making bookmarks from "leftovers" cereal boxes with your kids. It's a great way to recycle items around the house and repurpose them.

Materials
  • Cardboard cereal, cookie or cracker boxes
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Yarn
  • Stickers and stamps to use for decorating

Directions
  1. For each bookmark, cut a piece of cardboard approximately 6" long by 2" wide
  2. Cut a piece of yarn for each bookmark, approximately 10" long
  3. Punch a hole in the top center of each bookmark
  4. Decorate plain cardboard side with stickers and stamps
  5. Feed the piece of yarn through hole and tie knot to hold in place
