Last week we had a great time as we checked out the NEW Angry Bird Movie- Frenemies: Angry Birds Movie 2 at the 4-DX Regal L.A. LIVE: A Barco Innovation Center in Los Angeles.
As the movie starts we got our first taste of what was to come with a short virtual roller coaster. It was not just a visual experience as the chairs moved and along with the action and we got sprayed with a little water (there is a button which allows you to turn off the water if you want). Then there was a live action chase scene to demonstrate the 4-DX experience and the special effects really made the movie come to life.
The 4DX effects really were impressive. They really played a huge role as we moved a bit during the flying and fight scenes, especially the parachute scene. Additionally there were several instances where we got sprayed with water.
The movie itself was pretty cool. We hadn’t seen the original Angry Birds Movie but the movie stood up well on its own. There were two basic themes in the movie. The first was about Red the main character learning to overcome his self-esteem issues. He felt that the only reason people liked him was because he was their chief defender so he was threatened by the truce with the old enemy (the pigs) and felt he had to be the primary savior against the new one. Through the film he grew and realized that teamwork was important to resolving issues by being part of a team he would be just as appreciated as he was being the primary hero.
The second theme involved female empowerment. They introduced a new character, Silver who is brilliant and comes up with many of the ideas which are critical to the team’s success. It takes Red a while to appreciate her and finally accept her ideas, but he does come around. The lead antagonist is also a female character who is also quite brilliant and eventually overcomes her evil inclinations.
We loved the movie but it was so much better with all the effects. I highly recommend seeing Frenemies the Angry Birds Movie 2 and I encourage you to go to see it in 4-DX if at all possible. It makes a good film even better.

The 4DX auditorium features motion seats and special effects including wind, fog, mist/rain, scents and more that perfectly synch to the on-screen action.
So what is 4DX? It is an immersive multi-sensory experience where the auditorium incorporates motion-based seating that is synchronized with more than 20 different effects which allow the audience to connect with movies through motion, vibration, water, wind, snow, lightning, scents, and other special effects that enhance the visuals on-screen. It’s like spending over an hour on your favorite amusement park ride without any of the lines! Definitely a mind-blowing experience the whole family can enjoy together.
