Easy Patriotic Crafts

For all ages! Show your red, white, and blue spirit!

Looking for a kid-friendly USA-themed craft? I've got not one, but two easy crafts your kids -- no matter what their ages -- can do for the any patriotic holiday. (Yes, that means Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, you name it!

Bonus: you probably already have all the supplies you need on hand for these crafts!


Red, White, and Blue Windsock

Materials:

  • Red or blue plastic cup
  • Red/Blue/White streamers (6 cut into 3-foot strips)
  • Red or blue pipe cleaners
  • Star stickers
  • Screwdriver
  • Tape

Directions:

  1. Use the screwdriver to punch two holes in the bottom of the solo cup
  2. Loop the pipe cleaner through the two holes and twist together
  3. Tape the streamers into the inside of the cup
  4. Decorate the outside with stars
  5. Hang outdoors and watch it fly

Cotton Swab Fireworks

Materials:

  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Black cardstock
  • Cotton swabs
  • Red and blue paint

Directions:

  1. Use the scissors to cut 12 cotton swabs in half
  2. Put a quarter-sized dot each of the red and blue paints on a plate
  3. Make 4 large circles on the black paper with the glue stick
  4. Dip the end of each cotton swab in the color of your choice and stick onto a circle
  5. Repeat this process until you have 4 circles with 6 swabs each
