The Chabad of Moorpark Jewish Center invites the entire community to celebrate the Festival of Lights at the 12th annual Public Menorah Kindling Ceremony. The grand Chanukah celebration will take place on Sunday, December 22 at 4:30 PM in the Vons Shopping Center, 4225A Tierra Rejada Road.

Public dignitaries Including Mayor Parvin, the chief of police and Moorpark council members will attend the ceremony and will assist in kindling the giant  Menorah.

Prior to the kindling, the program will feature a world-renowned, and award-winning comedian and illusionist, Justin Rivera. The highlight of the event will be "THE GREAR GELT DROP" where local firefighters will be throwing chocolate coins from their ladder 25 feet in the air. There will also be crafts and activities, hot latkes and donuts, music, dancing, and more! Menorahs and candles will also be available at the event for those who need.

Chanukah is the eight-day Jewish "Festival of Lights," this year beginning on the evening of December 22nd and culminating on December 30 .  Each evening at sunset an additional candle is lit to commemorate the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem some 2000 years ago.  “The message of Chanukah,” explains Rabbi Shimy Heidingsfeld, Executive Director of Chabad of Moorpark, “is one of hope in the face of extreme adversity.  It’s a message with broad appeal to everyone who believes in religious freedom and that faith and determination can triumph against even the most overwhelming odds.”

“This Menorah is the ultimate display of joy and unity,” said Devorah Heidingsfeld, organizer of the event. “The holiday of Chanukah is a festival of a historic victory and celebration for all times, highlighted by the kindling of Menorahs each night of the holiday. Yet it also contains a universal message for people of all faiths—that ultimately, good will triumph over evil, freedom over oppression, and light over darkness.

Join us in a public display of unity at this exciting Menorah Lighting Ceremony.
